Frequent polling of Zigbee devices

Good afternoon! I noticed that polling of devices in zigbee2mqtt 2.8.0 with the EZSP v8 6.7.9.0 build 405 coordinator is happening too frequently, which will affect battery life. All devices are polled approximately every 10 minutes, with the exception of the motion sensor, which signals when a person is detected. For example, the IKEA E1743 button is polled every 9 minutes and 45 seconds.

I uploaded coordinator_backup.json to ZHA, and polling of the IKEA E1743 and other devices is normal, less than every 10 minutes.
However, with the ZStack3x0 20220301 coordinator in another house and the same version of zigbee2mqtt, the IKEA E1743 button is polled every 3-12 hours.

IKEA E1743 was connected recently, I tried changing the Min rep interval, Min rep change parameters on the Reporting tab and Debounces on the Settings tab, updating the firmware of the IKEA button, but this does not affect the device polling frequency.

Some firmware of devices are quirky and despite z2m providing the capability to alter reporting, it’s ultimately up to the device’s firmware. There are a plethora of devices, like IKEA and TuYa, that fall in this category. The good news is that there are several developers on GitHub that have created custom firmware for devices that might address these issues and more, like adding new features. Not all of them are OTA, though. Some require flashing a .bin directly to the board. Here are a few repo’s to check -

Tuya-Zigbee-Switch - for TuYa wired wall switches
Tuya ZY-M100 - for TuYa presence sensors

I’ve personally done the ZY-M100 custom firmware update. The stock firmware of those presence sensors poll every second due to the Target Distance feature.
