Gaian Grid: an open Home Assistant project for electricity telemetry and local renewable coordination

Hello everyone,

We’ve just launched Gaian Grid, a new open project built around Home Assistant.

Gaian Grid lets people voluntarily share selected electricity telemetry from Home Assistant so we can build better visibility into low voltage networks as more solar, batteries, and two way power flows come online.

Right now, the focus is on building the foundations:

  • secure device enrollment
  • Home Assistant telemetry integration
  • a live public view of aggregated data

Longer term, the goal is to support things like local energy trading and grid flexibility services through Home Assistant, making participation simpler and more accessible.

A few important points:

  • participation is voluntary
  • people choose which sensors to share (even just a single voltage measurement helps)
  • the public view is aggregated, not a public feed of household-level data

We’d really appreciate feedback from the Home Assistant community, especially on:

  • the setup flow
  • the integration approach
  • whether the privacy and data boundaries are explained clearly enough
