Garage Door State Template Sensor

Trying to get some template sensors setup for my wearOS device and am having a heck of a time determining the state of my Meross garage doors.
In my template sensor I have the following for state but it always appears “uknown”

{{states(‘sensor.smart_garage_door_opener_msg200_garage_door_1’)|float > 0 }}

Here is the cover entity for the garage door:

That’s because the entity has a value of “closed” and that can not be converted to a float.
