Garbage Collection Notify / Acknowledge

I’m looking for help architecting a solution to this. I have searched but did not find any discussion on the forum for this.

I have the garbage collection integration installed and configured. It is working great. My panel lights up red when I am due to put out the garbage or recycling. No problem there.

What I am looking to do is “acknowledge” that I’ve put out the trash / recycling. The concept of the main panel is something lights up when I need to take action. I would like to be able to tell Home Assistant that I have actually put out the trash / recycle. Then the button would either be green or go back to an off state / color.

There are several of us that will put out the trash and whoever gets to it first can acknowledge it. That way other users don’t have to go and check whether the trash is out because it is showing on the panel.

thanks!

Did you found a way of doing this?

What about some kind of RFID tag ? Our Wheelie bins have a location for an RFID chip but they are not installed (under front left of rim)

Or a camera with object recognition pointing at your bin store or where your bin is put out to - this could count the number of bins, not sure it could recognise the colours though.
Or ultrasonic sensors behind each bin the bin store ?
Or weigh platform under each bin ?
