Oh PLEASE, yes, add this to HA. I use Garmin Connect for cycling. I would take it even a step further with some wishful thinking and wish one would be able to use Garmin Live Track within HA.

For some reason I can’t get the vote button to work for me, but this is definitely something I would like to see added, along the same lines as the FitBit sensor. I wish I had the smarts to build the component myself but it isn’t so.
Do we need to pay the $5K fee to access the API?
It doesn’t look like it. If you want access to live data like:
- speed
- pace
- cadence
- power
- GPS
Then you need to pay the licencing fee for the “Fitness / Connect API”.
If you want summary info like
- all day step count
- all day calorie count
- all day distance
- sleep duration
Then you can just use the free “GCS / Wellness API”. I think this free API would be sufficient. There is also info available in the free api for activity tracking, but it says “During activity only”, so I’m not sure how that would work.

I migrated from Fitbit to Garmin platform and I contacted the Garmin API team to get access to the Garmin Health API. If they approves it, I’ll start and implement this sensor for us.
