Hello everyone ![]()
First of all, thanks for RadPro – it’s an impressive project and exactly the kind of open firmware many of us were hoping for.
I’d like to share an idea and ask a few questions that might be interesting not only for me, but for many Home Assistant and smart-home users.
Idea: Simple Home Assistant integration via USB
It would be amazing to have a native Home Assistant integration for RadPro, focused on simplicity:
Connect a Geiger counter (for example Bosean FS-5000)
Use the built-in USB port only
Plug it directly into a computer or device running Home Assistant (PC, NUC, VM host, etc.)
Home Assistant reads live radiation data (CPM, µSv/h, tube info, timestamps, etc.)
Display everything as standard HA sensors, with history, automations, alerts, dashboards
No ESPs, no Wi-Fi bridges, no additional hardware – just USB + RadPro + Home Assistant.
Motivation
Right now, most guides and solutions I can find are:
very old
extremely complex
based on custom hardware, ESP32s, pulse counting, or Linux-only setups
difficult to reproduce for non-experts
Home Assistant users usually expect:
“Plug it in, add an integration, done.”
RadPro already feels like the perfect foundation for this.
