Geolocation, is HA Cloud required?

Do I need to enable HA Cloud for geolocation to work? Geolocation does not seem to trigger, it thinks I am home all the time. Without Cloud when I leave home I can’t use the HA app remotely so I thought maybe that is why Geolocation doesn’t work?

Have you set up DuckDNS and port forwarding or similar?

If you don’t want to use HA Cloud you can always create your own VPN (via your NAS or router) and logon to that. That way your HA app works like you are at home. And geolocation should work also.

That’s the way I have set it up.

It has nothing to do with nabu-casa, duck-dns or vpn…

But you do need to open up a port on your router, so the phone can report its location.
Can you control HA from outside your network?

Also, on iphone, it tends to switch geolocation of after a while a couple of times before it understands it need to be on all the time
