Getting Alexa to speak the status of a device

Hi

I am an intermediate user of HA and have my system set up to control most of the house. I have a Nabu Casa Cloud subscription and have routed Alexa through it. When I expose a device or entity it appears after a few seconds and I am able to control the device as expected, for example “Alexa, Central Heating on”. I would like to get Alexa to report the status of a device, for instance “Alexa, status of Central Heating”. When I try to do so I always get “That’s not supported yet” as a response. Firstly is it possible to get the status spoken by Alexa and if so what am I missing to make it work?

I think you’re just using phrasing that Alexa doesn’t “understand”. Try simple questions like “Is the thermostat on?” or “Is Central Heating off?”.

Oh my word! Thank you so much for that, it works fine. It’s been driving me mad for a while, I have tried different phrasing before but never the ones you suggested.
