I’m starting on my first attempts to use HomeAssistant by trying to configure two nodeon octan remotes for controlling media on/off + volume in two rooms in my house.
When testing things out from my office all works well but the range doesn’t quite make it to the places I want to use remotes. One doesn’t work at all as soon as I walk through one door the other is unstable.
In order to remedy this I’ve installed an Aeotec Range Extender 6 that claims 30 meters range, and both locations are well within this, but the remotes seem to refuse to attempt to make use of the repeater. I’ve tried mashing the heal network button, and the test network button, I’ve left everything alone overnight, removed the remotes, added the remotes again, nothing seems to make any difference.
Does anyone have working instructions for making these remotes use the repeater? Or do I need to try a different brand of remote?
Just in case it’s relevant I’m using the existing stable z-wave integration, not the beta OpenZWave integration (as I read advised on a reddit thread this week).
They will use the router (any powered node) but only if they can establish a connection. I know they work because I’ve got a couple of them, both connected through routers.
I understand 30 meters in open conditions… in my situation I’m missing about 2-3 meters range without the repeater, so I would expect placing the repeater anywhere between my remote and usb stick would help that last little bit of range. Tried two locations so far, still no luck.
Hmmm, it seems you might be right, after turning on the leds on both the remote and the repeater to try and understand what’s going on. I have a suspicion that even thought the repeater was closer, as long as the usb stick was in range it was sometimes going direct and then I got a failed message (red blinky light on the remote) as it wasn’t quite close enough … tweaking the position of the repeater I was able to get one remote working pretty consistently. Unfortunately this means I need another repeater for the other location…
