Gigaset ION for Voice Assistant?

Hello,

I stumbled over the Gigaset ION. The device is made for online conferences and calls with Teams, Zoom and so on. It basically act like a hands-free system but can also be used as a phone if picked up. It is just connected via USB. The clue is, that the wireless communication happens via DECT, which use its own frequency band. That makes a big range and good quality for speech possible (DECT is designed with a focus on voice data). The costs are also low: 20-25€.

I couldn’t find any information about using it for voice assistant in HA. For me it seems a quite interesting device for this purpose. Do you have some thoughts or experiences with the device?

If the device is detected in Linux as a microphone and speaker, then you can use it in this project.

You will also need a rbp zero 2w or any other platform to launch the satellite.

Thank you for the answer! So it should work  But I will get one and test, if it really does show up as mic and speaker.

Why I need a satelite? Can’t I directly add a speaker/mic to my RPi with HA?

Theoretically, yes. But the existing add-on (based on Wyoming Satellite) has not been updated for a long time and may have problems, so you will have to find out the details about its functionality yourself.
