I wanted to share with you a few impressions and screenshots of the widgets I’ve developed for GlassHome over the past two months. If you’re not familiar with GlassHome yet, feel free to check out the website (GlassHome: A beautiful dashboard for Home Assistant) for more details.
Many of these widgets already existed as YAML files on my HA system and were implemented using custom:button-card. That all works very well. However, you’re probably well aware of the drawbacks of YAML files. The time-consuming maintenance and poor portability make it relatively difficult for newcomers to achieve satisfactory results. I’d already had similar experiences while developing templates for HaCasa (some of you might still remember that).
Since GlassHome comes with a very good SDK provided by the developer, it was relatively easy to convert the existing cards and solutions for GlassHome. Creating new widgets is just as easy.
So if you’re looking for a modern dashboard that doesn’t require any YAML knowledge or a cloud connection, you should definitely give GlassHome a try. It’s currently still in beta, but the official launch of version 1 is scheduled for Sunday.
