Why do i need https for google cast from homeassistant if I’m only casting within my local network? I can cast to any display within my LAN from google chrome with the internet disconnected, so this requirement seems like BS. Why force exposure of my homeassistant to the internet just to cast locally? Thanks! I don’t know how to use discord, BTW.
I think your chrome is sending Over https to your cast device - as far as I know
I disconnected the internet. Still works from chrome web browser windows pc to all nest displays. I’m clearly missing what is necessary about exposing HA to the internet, since Chrome can do it without internet. Why can’t HA?
The https is a requirement for accessing HomeAssistant functionality through Google Chrome (or Nest or Home)..

Funny how homeassistant can see and control everything about my nest displays without https, without internet, without exposing my HA to the internet. I can send tts messages, turn them on and off, volume control, play internet radio on them, play music locally to them, cast screen and tabs from chrome… I can do everything but cast lovelace the display. WHY? Sounds like they want subscription money…“Home Assistant Cast requires your instance to be reachable via HTTPS. Enable Home Assistant Cloud or set up an external URL with valid SSL certificates” No thanks. I’ll just put a cheap tablet on the wall.
