What why and how are you doing?
And does this even have something with Home Assistant?
I have a Google Nest 2nd generation and I want to be able to chat with it using Gemini. I clicked the button for early accesss which gave me the “…invalid argument…” message.
But what does this have to do with Home Assistant?
Until a few days ago I had never heard of Home Assistant or Google Home but they seem to be somewhat related according to Grok. In any case Google has now activated Gemini on my Nest 2nd gen so I guess my request went thru despite the error message. The problem here is called the “curse of knowledge” (Steven Pinker). People who know a lot often cannot see things from the perspective of a non specialist. Because of this they are poor communicators. You may be a poor communicator but at least you tried. Nobody else did.
Home Assistant is a local, open-source system for controlling (not only) smart homes that is very versatile, easy to set up, but advanced when you need it, free (only one cheap subscription that is unnecessary), and supports more than 2000 brands; if it does not support your device, you can easily code that integration yourself.
But your problem was with Google Home (a cloud-locked-down system for controlling smart homes that is very easy to set up but can get annoying soon; it has lots of subscriptions, and supports at least 500 brands, and if it does not support your device, you can argue with Google that you want your code to work), not Home Assistant.
Even your Grok says:
Home Assistant is a separate open-source platform that can talk to both Nest hardware and Gemini—but they are not one system.
That was rude even by my (very low) standards.
You post here in a Home Assistant forum just because Grok told you there’s a random connection between Google & HA.
Someone asks you if this issue relates to HA at all, since this is the HA forum after all. Not only do you admit that you have no concept of what HA is, you go ahead & accuse them of being poor communicators because you’re a “non-specialist”
Google Home interfaces with hundreds of products - did you also post in their other forums too for what appears to be a Google-specific issue? Didn’t Grok tell you that the first port of call should have been the Google forums?
Grok isn’t the best AI; it is based on X, which is good but also bad. In this case, bad.
