What does this mean for us?
To Device Access Partners and Developers,
We are reaching out to notify you of an important upcoming architectural change regarding event delivery for the Device Access program.
To improve reliability, scalability, and give developers full ownership of their event streaming infrastructure, Google is sunsetting legacy Google-hosted Cloud Pub/Sub topics (topics prefixed with projects/sdm-prod/topics/…). Moving forward, all partners and developers must configure and manage their own self-hosted Google Cloud Pub/Sub topics within their own Google Cloud (GCP) projects to continue receiving real-time event notifications.
Key Summary
- What is changing? SDM event notifications will no longer be published to legacy Google-hosted Pub/Sub topics (sdm-prod). You must supply a Pub/Sub topic created within your own Google Cloud project.
- Who is affected? Any integration using a legacy topic formatted as projects/sdm-prod/topics/enterprise-. If your project already uses a custom topic under your own GCP project ID, no action is needed.
- Action Required: Follow the steps on our Developer Center to create and use a self-hosted Pub/Sub topic in your GCP project.
- Migration Deadline: Nov 30, 2026.
- Impact of non-action: After the deadline, event streaming on Google-hosted topics will be discontinued, and your application will no longer receive real-time device state updates or trait events.
