Hello. I want to buy a device to control my house via voice. I use HASSIO, dlink smart plug, Tp link smart plug, Samsung Smart Tv and Bose SoundTouch.
I want to know which device it’s more “easy” to use and have more access to the devices and HA. I already installed in HASSIO the addon of Google Assistant but I’m not sure if with that I can use google home.
Thank you for your opinion!!
Hej! Super good question I’m actually thinking exactly about the same thing.
I have to “invest” on one of them and still not super sure which one.
One point that I understood so far is that (for now) Echo is only speaking English. It’s most probably a deal breaker for everyone but for me it is.
I’d go with alexa.
It’s faster interacting with ha as its all internal. Google goes through the cloud to connect with ha so not as quick
Cheaper
Easier to integrate with ha using emulated hue. There’s alot of faff to get Google home into ha. And it’s buggy - you lose devices quite often.
Google can’t do much yet, I’m quite disappointed tbh. Although it understands me better, Alexa often gets stuff wrong which is most annoying.
If you combined the 2 you’d be on to a winner!
The Echos are a long way ahead for home automation with or without HA.
Yeah and that…
Although more expensive if you don’t use ha as the hub, ie Phillips hue… 60 quid for 2 bulbs and a hub… Joke.
Could use a sonoff aswell, they’re cheap and work with alexa out the box.
Id consider what you’ll be using such a device for…
If its solely for voice control of home automation, then its a lot of money to spend.
If your looking for the other functions then, having used both devices, in my opinion the Google Home is far superior. More natural sounding, ease of use for searches, random trivia, jokes etc.
I found the Home 100% easier to setup and pair with various services, like Spotify and Netflix for example.
but yeah, I think the Alexa is marginally ahead for home automation…but Google is gaining ground, and fast.
you lose devices quite often.
I’ve never experienced this with the Google Home integration
I agree with all this. Additionally in my opinion, there are way too many false triggers with Alexa, and always at the most inopportune times. Using Google Home for a few months, I have yet to experience a false trigger.
