Hey all, I’m pretty new to Home Assistant but been doing home automation for many many years. In that time I don’t think I’ve ever come across a process more byzantine and enraging than the Google Nest integration in Home Assistant. The short story is: after a while I finally got it working in HA, then for some reason Alexa stopped being able to control the Nest thermostats even though it could see them. (natively or through HA) Then Google announced they’re discontinuing support for older models so I bought 4th generation ones at a discount. I replaced the old ones but now HA only sees the downstairs one, not the upstairs one even though they’re in the same house, the same account and both can be controlled by the Google Home app. I have spent hours following ChatGPT down rabbit holes trying to diagnose and fix the problem and get them both running in HA. But I’m about to throw myself out a window. Before I do, does anyone have any thoughts? Ever experience something similar? Thanks!

Well, Google heard my cry and send me an email with a link to a Google / Nest partner connections page that allowed me to enable the 2nd thermostat to talk to HA. I did that, reloaded the integration and it finally showed up in HA! God, why on earth does Google make it so damn difficult to integrate their devices!? Infuriating.
