Hey, I had trouble to get my google tv streamer join my exisiting thread network. After many tries I got it working. Even tho I am not 100% sure what did the trick, I can tell you what I did to get it working.
- Check in HA if the google tv streamer joined the thread network (settings - > thread)
- If it didnt, factory reset the google tv streamer and follow the steps below to set it up.
- Sync thread credentials on your phone (settings - > companion app - >(scroll way down) troubleshooting - > sync thread credentials. This should succeed.
2a. On error:
Follow theese steps (be aware what deleting the play service data means. You can try to skip this step, if you have not already followed step 5 - 7 in your past setup.) - disable active VPNs on your phone (as recommended by HA when comissioning devices)
- disable 5 GHz wifi in you network (as recommended by HA when comissioning devices)
- be logged into you main google account on you phone (or the one used while creating the thread network)
- google stores thread credentials to its cloud by default (if interested, check by opening you phone settings → google services → thread networks → network preferences → save credentials
- log into you main google account in the google home app
- Set up the google tv streamer using the google home app and your main google account.
- Check in HA if the google tv streamer joined the thread network.
- If it didnt work and you skipped step 2a, start again at step 1 and follow step 2a.
If disabled, re-enable 5 GHz and VPN![]()
Why I guess this worked
As mentioned, the thread credentials are stored on your phone but per default backed up to your google account too. The google tv streamer tries to find exisiting thread credentials backed up to the google account used for setup. It may also be able to check for thread credentials on you phone, when using the google home app(?). By assuring we have the correct thread credentials locally on the phone and in the cloud on our google account, the google tv streamer should be able to pick one of them and join the exisiting thread network.
(Step 3 & 4 might not be necessary, but thats what I did when I got it working)
