Grey screen after bootloader UI

Hi everyone,

I’m having trouble getting Home Assistant OS (HAOS) running on my Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB) Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Using the latest HAOS Pi 4 64-bit image.
  • SD card is verified to be good and freshly flashed.
  • EEPROM/bootloader is up-to-date
  • Replaced start4.elf and fixup4.dat from a fresh Raspberry Pi OS Lite 64-bit installation.
  • Tried multiple SD cards and power supplies.
  • No USB peripherals connected, HDMI monitor attached.

Symptoms:

  • On boot, green LED flickers briefly, then goes off.
  • HDMI shows bootloader UI then shows the stuff below, then grey screen.
  • Last console output (on monitor) shows:
read config.txt bytes 702 hnd 0x59
read start4.elf bytes 2264054 hnd 0x2bb
read fixup4.dat bytes 5454 hnd 0x5b
0x0Bc03115 0x00000000 0x00001fff
MEM GPU:76 ARM:948 TOTAL:1024
starting start4.elf 0 0xfec00200 partition 1
  • No further activity, green LED stays off, HAOS does not boot.

I thought it was a harware issue with the pi but Raspberry Pi OS Lite boots fine, so the Pi itself seems okay.

Has anyone experienced a fresh HAOS Pi 4 64-bit install failing to boot, or does anyone know a fix to get HAOS fully running on this board?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Why? It’s been a while since I installed on a Pi 4 but don’t remember this step, nor is it part of the standard documented install…

I’ve just been trying things that I think might be fixing it, I don’t know if it’s crashing from those files, I already know the homeassistant OS doesn’t require me to do it but it just won’t boot at all, no matter what I try
