Groups not being created

I’ve been using Home Assistant for years (although I am not a very technical person). A few years ago, I installed a Z-wave fan switch (Leviton ZW4SF) , then later installed a 2-button ‘remote’ switch (Zooz ZEN34), and was able to create a group that allowed the remote switch to turn off/on the fan.

However, that switch did not get included into the Home Assistant network ‘completely’ (didn’t include entities for changing fan speed, which was OK back then), so recently I excluded that switch (and the remote switch), then re-included the fan switch and a ‘different’ (Minoston MR40Z - 4-button) remote switch.

Note: When I re-included the fan switch, Home Assistant still didn’t include the fan speed entities, it looks like that is because Home Assistant somehow “remembered” that device after I originally excluded it, and every attempt to re-include it (which included name changes and such) still caused the old device information to be brought into the configuration - but that is a different matter for a different time.

Now when I try (using Z-wave JS) to create a group to connect the two devices, no matter what options I choose for the Group setting, when I attempt to add the group, the group doesn’t get added (although there was no error message).

Additionally, as a parallel project, I installed/included a new Z-wave light switch (Leviton ZW15S) and a new remote switch (Aeotec Wallmote 7 - ZWA022-A), but am having the same problem trying to create a group to allow that remote to also turn on/off the lights.

What was “really” weird was that (in a 3rd room) I installed/included another Leviton ZW15S light switch, “re-included” the old Zooz ZEN34 remote switch (from above), and I was able to create a Group for those two - and it works fine!

I’ve checked to make sure that the security levels are the same on each of the devices in the (desired) group (they are all Zwave+ S2), but don’t know where else to turn.

Any ideas on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Although I still don’t have a clue as to how to create the groups I was hoping to make, I decided to just create automations to make it work. The ‘trigger’ is pressing a key on the remote, and the ‘action’ is to turn off/on the device or whatever else I want that remote button to do. It may not be as ‘elegant’, but it works!
