I just noticed my automatic backups have been failing for the last 3 months!
After a moment of panic, I realised my local backups and backups to GoogleDrive were still working, and it was only the Nabu Casa backups that were failing, and this was because my backups had jumped from 4.6Gb to 12Gb, which obviously exceeds my Nabu Casa storage.
I have no idea what could have caused this increase in size, so I downloaded the last backup, looked at the contents in 7-Zip.
Clearly I could remove my influxdb database (It would be uncomfortable losing the history, but in an emergency I could get my house back up and running)
but 8Gb “homeassistant.tar.gz” is still more space than I have on Nabu Casa storage, and I have been unable to open that to find what it contains.
Is there a good guide on what I should be backing up and where?
When I look at the backups page in Home Assistant, tbh there is information overload.
I have also been using the “Home Assistant Google Drive Backup” Add-on (now App) for many years which seems to have been working solidly, but now that I look, that was last updated in 2023, so whilst it seems to be working (and I have used it to recover my system in the past), I can’t be sure if any Home Assistant changes mean that it is not working as well as I think.
So if there is any up to date information on how backups work in HA, I would love to know.
