Guition Esp32 P4 JC1060P470 7inch screen desk setup

Searching around I found the new P4 based esp32 screens are a very reasonable price now, and good support from the community to get setup, so I thought I’d try out this Guition jc1060p470(£34/$50)

The performance leap from my old S3 panels is impressive, it’s both smoother on scroll and at higher resolution (whilst being the same price as my old screen!). The wifi reception is great and even has an camera and ethernet port (I don’t think it’s POE though)

I updated my old setup, to scale to this higher resolution, the code is here on Github, for anyone wanting to try out this setup.

I designed a desk stand for it, where the posts just slot into the case. I recommend adding some rubber feet to stop it sliding too.

I’ve just treated myself to one of these to compare against the Waveshare 7" 800x480. I don’t really have a use for the camera, but I’m curious if this can be used as a motion sensor to trigger the screen on. I guess this would mean the camera would have to continuously capture frames?

Thanks!

I haven’t tried the camera (or most of the extra hardware) yet, I ended up using my office presence sensors to control the backlight, avoids timeouts and flashing screens.

Otherwise I would just add a timeout after last interaction, it’s usually enough to get a balance between efficiency and annoyance.
