HA Backups on Virtualbox

I’m new to HA. I installed it on an old windows 10 laptop last week using virtualbox to try it out. The laptop however is having networking issues which is stopping HA supervisor from starting. I’d like to grab my backup and try it on a different machine but I have no idea how to do anything from the ha CLI. Where would the backups be and how would I copy them off. Thanks!

Hi Nigel, did you really do that much in a week that you need that backup?
Didn’t you offload the backup to another system?

Are the network issues HW/Win10 related or VirtualBox?

If it’s not HW/Win10, you could use that laptop (if not used anymore, and you don’t have a better alternative) to install HA directly on it and the additional benefit is the battery.

You are correct, I could spend a day going through it all again (and may still have to) but I thought it would be useful to figure out how to restore a backup because I might end up in the same situation again.

I don’t actually know where the HA backup went, I’m guessing its in the default location?

Please do elaborate on how HA could be put directly on it as the laptop is not used for anything else.

The point is: you might ‘waste’ more time in recovering a backup from 1 week compared to just start over and repeat/practice what you have done before.

For installing bare metal: Generic x86-64 - Home Assistant

The idea of @aceindy is also an option but that is if you want to use the whole virtual machine on the same platform.

You could also install the Samba-Share addon, then you can open and download everything you need :wink:

If the issue is persistent, yes…but I understood it was an occasional problem (or isn’t it? :thinking: )
But then still…he could copy the VM to another machine and copy it from there using Samba share :innocent:

My other machine did not like my virtual box backup so I am currently reinstalling home assistant my laptop from scratch. I’ll make sure I know where my backups are this time.
