Hey everyone! ![]()
I built a custom HACS integration and standalone interactive web portal for smart bird feeder cameras: ha-birdfeeder-portal ![]()
![]()
Key Features:
- Frigate NVR Integration: Pulls live bird visit events and camera snapshots directly from Frigate (supports both HA Add-on and external LXC/Docker setups).
- AI Conversation & Voice: Uses Home Assistant Assist (Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, or local LLMs) grounded with real-time feeder statistics to answer questions like “What birds visited today?” or “Describe the last bird”.
- Text-to-Speech: Synthesizes and speaks answers aloud with cloud or local TTS (Nabu Casa, Piper, etc.) using HA’s modern media source API with Web Speech fallback.
- Standalone Web Portal (Port 8195): Runs an isolated async web server so you can expose it publicly to friends/family (via Cloudflare Tunnel / reverse proxy) without granting access to your HA dashboard.
- HA Sidebar Integration: Automatically adds a dedicated bird feeder panel to your Home Assistant sidebar.
- Native HA Sensors: Tracks views, voice queries, last visitor species, and today’s total visits.

Would love to hear what you think or see what species visit your feeders!
