I am looking to build new HA system with Zwave. I like the power of QNAP and Synology. Adding the ZWA-2 would be great Z-wave radio. But the more I read, not sure is possible or straight forward.
I know the easy option is HA Green, but not sure its the power I need. Lots of devices like cameras, Govee, Schlage locks, Ring, Google TV, Alexa, Google Home, Google Nest LG appliances, 50 Plus Z-wave devices.
Can I use the ZWA-2 on containers/VM?
If not, what options would make sense for my setup?
Glad to see my setup does not seem too resource intensive. I am in the process of moving from other automation hub because it seems to delay some responses (Lights, motion, etc) and lose connection to some devices.
My goal is to use NAS server to host HA, single hardware for multiple solutions. For now, I was just quickly testing with Hyper-V and HA. Have not purchased NAS yet. Since Hyper-V does not allow sharing of USB to VM, got me thinking about how NAS would work when it would host HA. I did not see much about QNAP/Synology and the ZWA-2 USB. I was hoping just plug and play, but Hyper-V did not work out that way for ZWA-2. Worried NAS would be same issue.
When I build the new Automation solution, I want to make sure I pick the best options, of course. The ZWA-2 marketing look great and would put my mind at easy for the zwave traffic. I see two bottlenecks with my current setup, Z-wave communication and hub processing. The larger antenna should eliminate z-wave traffic. THen if I had more control on spec for hub, CPU/Memory, could do help reduce latency in processing.
Ideal setup:
NAS hosting container with HA
ZWA-2 USB Antenna directly connected to container (No middle man)
Ability to add other Antenna(Bluetooth, Zigbee, etc)
Secondary Setup
HA Gree
ZWA-2 USB Antenna directly connected
** This will work, just not a flexible to add more resources if I need
