HA doesn't recognize devices on primary router

New to this (I’ve seen this statement roughly 129 times as well) so I appreciate the feedback in advance. Will give story for texture, then ask the question directly. I set up HA on my wifi mesh router (netgear nighthawk) and quickly realized it was not identifying any connections to my primary (netgear) router - light switch hubs, etc. I renamed my primary SSID to match my mesh router, and HA identified both just fine. However, I randomly started getting a 404 not found for HA after my second setup - my assumption being that HA was only looking for the IP that I had set it up on - and I had moved my laptop to another section of my home, thus connecting to the primary (newly named) router. I have since reverted the primary SSID, rebuilt HA, and have it currently on my mesh routers wifi.

The question, is it possible for HA to recognize devices on another wifi connection with a different SSID? I have many ‘hubs’ being fed off my unattended switch from my primary router, and I don’t have enough ethernet ports on my mesh router to support them all.

Thanks in advance!!!

The ssid does not matter. What matters is the IP subnet. It sounds to me that the mesh router is installed as another router and therefore creating a second subnet with it’s own DHCP server. So you have 2 subnets and 2 dhcp servers. The smartest thing to do is reconfigure the mesh router to be just dumb access points for the primary router (put them in bridge mode).
