i have HA installed using the python virtual environment on Ubuntu. almost every 2 weeks, it goes down. how to know if it’s a Ubuntu issue or an HA issue? where are the logs and what should i look for?
Home Assistant logs are in the same directory as your configuration yaml. It’s just a .log file.
Well, is Ubuntu going down or is it just HA?
i think it’s Ubuntu’s fault because i can’t SSH into it. can’t even ping the PC. also, the fan would spin loudly whenever this issue happens. under normal operation, the fan is very quiet.
anyway, i looked at the HA log and there was nothing around 01:00 when Ubuntu went down. the log only shows events starting at 2020-01-16 06:29:01…that’s when i hard reset the PC and turn it back on.
That’s an Ubuntu problem.
Check the system log to see if it logged anything useful, but the odds are good it didn’t. You may need to have a keyboard and monitor connected so you can see if there’s usual messages on the display (I’d be expecting a kernel crash/oops at that point).
