HA green - fresh out of the box - time zone error while onboarding

I’m stuck on step 3 of the onboarding process. I can’t select a country/city at all. I keep getting this error message: “not a valid value for dictionary value @ data[‘time_zone’]. Got ‘Europe/Berlin’”. My computer is set to Berlin by default. The browser (Chrome) is getting the time zone from the PC. The error also appears in Edge, Firefox, and on my phone. I hope someone can help me, as I haven’t been able to find any help in other posts here.

Have you plugged in the Ethernet cable ? , also do remember, that it’s recommended cording to the official Documentation for Green , to add a battery in the case ( Not required, as i have not, but i also haven’t had any issues yet )

" Please read the Green DOCs carefully ! "

All Of iT !

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yes, ethernet cable is plugged in.

I didn’t know the HA Green required a battery.
My (included) instruction manual is only three pages long and 10x10 cm in size. Where can I find this user manual?

In other forums, a problem with the time zone detected by the browser is frequently discussed. Solutions seem to exist, but unfortunately, they haven’t been shared.

shut down your HA, unplug it , take a brake, But before/first make an IP reservation for the HA entry in Your Router, so when you eventually plug it in and start it again, it will hopefully get the same

Google is often still your best friend, i guess it already is, so i wonder why you haven’t found Homeassistant’s official webzite

" ha installation green "

I followed your tips. Unfortunately, without success.

By the way, I already found the official website and have the installation instructions – but unfortunately, none of them are helpful.

As well as your Issue and followup descriptions are not helpful !, which make me think you haven’t read the first link i provided, or you don’t understand what is needed from you , for people to able to come with other than suggestions , and “shot’s in the dark”
Feel free to describe in details, and structured order what you have done and how
i.e step, step,2

Also try to just rip out the power-plug of HA
And connect a monitor to your Green, so you get an idea what’s happening there, could in th end be here aswell where you need to commit rebuild , restore, update etc rtf, docs, that you “found”

This sounds to me that your network settings are not correct so your Green cannot access a NTP server

I’ve tried the onboarding process with the Green Box on my network and on another network. I’ve also tried it with three different PCs and my mobile phone (also on two different networks).

I’ve accessed my router’s settings, but I can neither find nor change the NTP time zone (router from Glasfaser Deutschland).

I’ve disabled all firewalls, ad blockers, etc.

I’m starting to think it’s the router, but I can’t change anything on it.

I’ll see if I can skip the onboarding process.

Thanks so far.

You shouldn’t, trust me you really shouldn’t! Every step is there for a reason. There are no short cuts.

What is the local IP Address of your router?

Does your router web page and dashboard reflect current time, or close to it? January 1970? Some other time?

What is the local IP address of your green?

Did you install the suggested coin cell battery? The one that keeps the time when you power off your green? Would it break your bank balance to do so? How much is your time worth if it actually solves your immediate problem, as some of us are inclined to believe it might, based on other people’s experience, and may prevent a similar occurrence each time you do a rebuild?

I solved the problem! I reset the HA Green to factory settings. Then I started everything again from scratch and now it works.

The sledgehammer approach. Doesn’t always work.
Buy the coin cell - you might need it in the future.

Good that it got solved!

Also: please take the time to mark the post that holds the answer.
You do that by selecting the three dots under the post:

Then select the check box:

By doing so:

  • this thread can be useful to other users as well (this thread comes up as solution when starting a thread which is similar to yours).
  • this prevents that someone else steps in trying to help
