I currently have an HA Yellow but the CM4 module only has 2GB of memory. I have been increasingly having problems compiling ESPHome device updates and it appears that memory size is the issue. I am trying to update to CM5 with 8GB of memory but have been having problems with getting it imaged. That is another story.
I was looking at buying another HA Yellow in the event I sell my house or this one goes tits up. The Yellow apparently is out of production. The Green option has 4GB of memory and it appears that it does not use a CM module so increasing memory would not be possible. I worry that doubling the memory size over my current Yellow might not be adequate going forward as current ESPHome updates seem to be increasingly more memory intense. I suppose that if I did sell my house, I could buy a Green for my current house and take the Yellow to my new house. Of course the Green would require adding on Z-Wave as it does not support it natively. Then again, will new buyers even want to deal with HA? I love it but I can understand that it’s not for everyone.
I have HA-Yellow. What Apps can you stop? I’ve stopped Node-Red, only starting when I need to program. Same for RPC Windows Shutdown, and that has allowed me to be able to use ESPHome without memory issues.
Why not just run Esphome in docker on a more powerful machine. The builder does not need to run in HA.
If you have Code Server / VS Code app installed and running, it will use about half that 2GB…
