New to HA, experienced with home automation in general. Currently using Smartthings as hub and Alexa as voice interface. Combination of WiFi, Z-Wave and Zigbee devices. Purchased the HA Green, ZWA-2, ZBT-2 and HA Voice. Green is operational, found a few of the WiFi devices and they are controllable. Added integration for ZWA-2, and Z-Wave JS is displayed. Go to add a device and am unsuccessful in either regular or smart start. Device is inches away from antenna. In regular mode, it just keeps searching. In smart start, it loads the appropriate device but displays “This device has been provisioned but is not yet included in the network” and is not controllable. I spent a fair amount of time searching for a solution. I tried to include a couple different types of devices (GE enbrighten smart switch and Minoston 800 series plug). It seems no Z-wave is happening.
Some say you can run Smartthings simultaneously others say exclude it from Smartthings first. I have not tried that and don’t really want to as that would be very disruptive.
Looking for help on ideas to get Z-wave devices connected. (Zigbee was a bust too and I have not even messed with the voice box yet). Very frustrated. Thank you
Any ZW or ZB device can only be paired to one controller at a time. To pair a device to HA, you'll need to first exclude that device from ST.
It's true that you can simultaneously run ST and HA overall, but each of your z-devices can only be paired to one of those controllers or the other.
When I slowly migrated my Hubitat's ZW to HA over the course of a couple weeks, each system had its own ZW network running - things worked fine on both systems as I was migrating. When I was done, I disabled the Hubitat's ZW radio.
Migrating ZB will be next for me, and I plan to do a similar piece-meal migration... I'll just make sure all 3 of my ZB channels (Hubitat, Hue, and HA) are deconflicted from my wifi. Thankfully, I'm not using any Thread yet, so I don't need to worry about a channel for it.
Thank you. That is what I thought it might be but was confused by other things I read. Took it out of ST and it went right into HA. Piece-meal is the key I guess. Got the Zigbee to go too. You don't have to exclude it from ST, but when you include it in HA, it does not work in ST anymore. Interesting. Anyway, will have to go one by one and move them over. I now have some non-critical devices controllable in HA (WiFi, Zigbee and Zwave) Have to get HA Voice to work before I move the more critcal ones over. Not having luck with Voice yet. Have loaded the integration and whisper app. Still nothing happening. Thanks again.
That's great news - glad I could help! Build out your zigbee mesh by focusing on well-positioned mains-powered devices that can form the backbone of your mesh (start close to ZBT-2 and build out). Zigbee tends to be more genuinely mesh-reliant than non-LR z-wave (I realize that's painting with a very big brush, but I stand by it).
Stay patient as you go, and keep asking questions.... it's better to check/verify/setup each device as you move it over. When I first started my ZW migration, I had a LOT of learning curveballs, but it then got smoother & smoother. I expect my zigbee migration will be the same. Good luck and godspeed!
