HA in Proxmox with other VMs

Apologies if this is not strictly a Home Assistant question, but you guys are all so knowledgable, I’m sure many of you will have thoughts on this.

My HA server is currently running in a Proxmox 8 VM on a Lenovo M73 Tiny mini PC with an i5-4570T and 16GB of RAM. The Home Assistant VM is using 2 CPU cores and 8GB of RAM.

Would there be enough left to run another VM with a media server such as Plex or Jellyfin or would an LXC be better on the same machine? It would only need to handle a max of 2 media streams.

The plan is to rip all our DVD box sets into a media server and I don’t want to start doing that until I have a server capable of hosting.

I also have a Pi4 8GB that was my first Home Assistant server, but when I moved to the Tiny mini PC I cloned the MAC address of the Pi and gave it to the Tiny mini. So I’d need to give the Pi4 a new MAC address, which, from what I can make out, is quite a complex operation.

Any thoughts gratefully received, thanks.

Hi

LXC is lighter on hardware resources than VM.
My Jellyfin LXC in proxmox is running smooth and even use GPU acceleration.

That’s good to know. I’d read somewhere that there were issues with Proxmox and GPU acceleration, or maybe I misread that?

Have you got a good guide to installing Jellyfin in an LXC, or is there one on the Jellyfin website?

I have an HP t630 thin client, running proxmox. It has HAOS, PiHole, openmediavaullt with dlna server, Heimdall and a uinfi controller. It has 16meg of ram and has been running this faultlessly for a couple of years now. It even sometimes runs up a quick test vm or container sometimes. So yours should be fine.
