HA Mobile doesn't connect without internet connection

I have a Google Pixel phone and I have HA mobile installed. when I am outside my local WiFi network I can connect to my HA just fine, if I a am out and about also working fine. My External setting is my Nabu Casa link. I have my local IP setup to work when local. The problem is is that when I have no internet at home and I am on the local network I cannot connect. I was under the impression that if I was connected to the local network I would connect locally but that isn’t the case is it? My router is an OPNsense. What is the fix for this? Hairlin routing on the OPNsense? Some other settings for the Mobile app?

Thanks

Silly question but are you sure your phone is connected to the network? I know many a times my Android phones would disconnect from the WiFi if the network had no internet connectivity.

I would test next time there is no internet to see if you can hit the local IP address from your phone’s browser. If you can’t, then either A) your phone isn’t connected to the network or B) your HA instance isn’t connected to the network.

If you can connect from your phone’s browser, make sure you’ve set your local SSID network’s name in the Mobile App.

If you don’t have internet at home then your ha cant reach cloud so your mob cannot connect to it.

Are you saying when your internet is not working at home, you cannot connect to your HA? That is probably because your HA is connected to your home internet and needs it to reach outside your house.

Edit: Daniel above types faster than me it seems. We said the same thing.

Hi guys Thanks for the replies.

When I have no internet I can use my phone’s browser to get to HA.

I thought in the mobile app there was a setting for local network and one for internet. I have the local ip 192.168.x.x set in the local setting and the Nabu link set for the internet.

Yes there is but your local wifi probably is not working as you expected for some reason.
If you set up you mobile to use your ha ip on local wifi and to use it over cloud when you are not connected to your wifi then something is not working as it should with your local wifi.
Either your mob is not connected to your local wifi because it have no connection to internet or you gave app wrong address.
Anyway if you are using decicated router for your local wifi, not provider router, your wifi should work regardless of internet connection.

If you can hit your HA instance using your phone’s browser, did you set your “Home Network” in the HA companion app?

This setting tells the HA app to use the “Internal connection URL” instead of the “Home Assistant URL”. Just setting the Internal one does not make the HA app attempt to connect to it.

My wifi setup is Ubiquiti with a Cloudkey2 and my router/firewall is opnsense. I’ll mess with it tonight and see if I have the addresses and that local network setting correct.

Im using openwrt so I don’t know.
But as I said, if your local wifi is working there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to access your wifi.
Ok there is at least one that I can think of but this isnt probably your problem.
