HA not stable?

Hi there,

I’m fairly new to the HA community and I just installed my very first Home Assistant a couple of weeks ago. I really like using HA but I run into some troubles.

Every now and then (and I cannot pinpoint when it happens, it seems randomly) some pages of the HA do not work anymore and I cannot reboot the HA from the software. A hard reboot (disconnecting the power supply) does fix it for some time, but eventually it “crashes” again. Also back-ups are sometimes not created.

I have the following setup:
HA core 2025.4.1 installed on a Samsung EVO 990 Plus 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD which is mounted on a Raspberry Pi 5 8GB with a GeekwormX1015. I also have the Geekworm H505 active cooler fan installed and I am using the Sonoff Zigbee ZBDongle-E. The whole setup is powered by a Geekworm power adapter which should deliver 5V @ 5A.

Could it be a power issue? Should I use a powered USB hub for the Sonoff Zigbee controller?

Any advice or help is welcome because I really want a stable setup that does not require a hard reboot every couple of days.

A good place to start:

Thank for your reply! Seems that the power is okay, according to the HA RPi Power Supply Checker.

I will try to move the Zigbee dongle to a powered USB hub later this week. Hopefully that helps.

Check the logs ( #5 in the link Francis provided).

This is the log I get from HA after restarting the system. This morning I couldn’t edit my dashboard and when trying to restart the system from the software it showed something about not being able to find the configuration.yaml file.

Some cards and buttons still work in this case, so I am a little bit confused.

Do you see strange things in this log file?

There is a bunch of red line in the logs, but I do not know if they can cause a system malfunction? It seems to be correlated to chromecast stuff, which I do not use at the moment because I am only running the HA in my local network and not casting anything to any of the Google devices.

Could it help to remove them from my HA setup?

This usually corrupts the Home Assistant file system (#4 in the link that was provided above ).

Thank you, unfortunately this did not help. I also put my Zigbee dongle into a powered USB hub, but still the problem presists.

Anything else I can try?

Did you do a fresh install and restore your backup to the new installation?

I am doing a fresh install now, can I just restore my backup or could some files be in there that are corrupted?

Also; this message is showing now:

Update: I have been able to install HA on the RPi5 from the Raspberry Pi Imager. So it is a fresh installation and put back my back-up file from 8th of April. Let’s hope that now the system will be stable.

Edit: I am seeing some things in the host logs concerning the NVMe SSD. Is this something to fix or is it innocent?
