HA on PI 5 doesn't start after Update to 15.0

Hi Folks!
I am having a huge issue!
My HA doesn’t start up after I started the Update to 15.0.
I waited for more than 20min, it doesn’t turn on. Can’t ping it either.
A restart, by unpluging it, didn’t help either.

I made the worst mistake, and did not save the backups to another drive, yet. So all Data are on the PI-HA SD. Any suggestions of what I can do?
Thanks in advance!
Fritz

Anytime you update a lot of memory locations on the SD card are swapped and it is a common time to find out your SD card is failing. Do you have another one? (A good one?)

Have a look here in this thread… you’re not alone

I’m going to bump my dev machine shortly here and see myself how that does.It has 15 rc2 loaded, but 15 release is loading now.

Update. mine came around ok. (This was a VM running the beta)

Another update. I did 2 bare metal HAOS current version and they were fine as well.

I have tried twice to upgrade my pi5 to os15, but it won’t boot into 15 and finally gives up and boot 14 instead.

My pi5 (8gb) is failing to update to HAOS 15.0 as well. This also happened with the update to HAOS 14.2. (I let it try for over an hour before power cycling- I went to run errands after it failed and let it be until I got home.)

Core 2025.3.3
Supervisor 2025.03.3
Operating System 14.2
Frontend 20250306.0

Last time, I made several upgrade attempts that all failed until the first HA Core update after the latest HAOS came out. This time, I’m not going to waste my time; I’m just going to try again after an HA Core release. (Unless you’d like me to pull information for debugging purposes.)

My system came right back after a power cycle w/o any issues. My SD card (10.9% used space) is only a few months old; it’s not that. The network stack was up, and I could ping it, even though HAOS didn’t come up. Pings were averaging just over 1 ms. I’m using the official 27W power supply and active cooler.

No automatic backup either, yikes!

This isn’t just a Pi(5) issue. I have the same problem on Generic x86-64 as well.

Since I have a keyboard and a display, I just manually told it to boot from the alternate boot slot, which was 14.2, and my system came back.

I’ll hold off on upgrading to 15 for a while.

I have the same problem. I have a Thin Client, HP T520 32gb 4gb ddr3, running HAOS. After installing HAOS 15, it no longer booted. After a few reboots, it switched back to HAOS 14.2.

I will also wait a while before upgrading to 15.

Thanks for the suggestion, however, the card is just 2 months old. And I have no problem to read/write it with.
I was able to rescue my Backups from the card and put a brand new HA 14.2 on it. Unfortunately, the pi doesn’t start anymore - at least not with network. I do not have a micro-hdmi yet, so can’t access it other than via network. So I am a bit stuck now :frowning:

I too have a Pi5, which was on HA14.2. It has twice refused to load HA15. Just locks up and is unreachable. Appalling

Start from a cold boot (cut power). Immediately perform upgrade. It worked for me.

Finally, my HA is back. I flashed (again) the SD, this time with a new 15.0 and was able to restore the backup. All up and running smoothly, now.
Some sweat, some learning …
Thanks, everybody for trying to help!

did that work for others too? i was having the same issue - after hard reset (unplug power) i am back to 14.2 - should i wait with the 15?
Thanks for a hint

Cold Boot first worked for me…tho I updated the Pi firmware too before updating.
