I just integrated Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition into my Home Assistant OS installation on Raspberry Pi 5.
I also integrated Music Assistant into Home Assistant.
Home Assistant Voice is connected to my Hi-Fi receiver via the 3.5 mm jack and is a Music Assistant player.
Everything works perfectly.
However, as soon as I plug the jack into Home Assistant Voice, the audio output via the internal speaker stops.
I don’t have the Hi-Fi receiver turned on permanently, only when I want to listen to music with Music Assistant. This means that I have no audio output without the receiver. But I don’t want to have to plug and unplug the jack all the time.
Is there a way to adjust the audio output (internal/external with jack) of Home Assistant Voice in Home Assistant? I haven’t found an entity for this.
There IS a post in the community site about adapting one for Optical using grove. And yes it works.
The disconnect on 3.5 is standard for nearly all speakers. The jack is wired inline of the speakers so it intentionally disconnects on 3.5 jack insertion… So the speaker driver isn’t attempting to drive both speakers AND headphones at the same time. It’s overload protection
It seems like it would be quite a bit of work to implement an optical output via the Grove port of the Home Assistant Voice.
I am new to Home Assistant and am not a geek with programming skills.
Therefore, I am perhaps looking more for a streaming box to connect to my hi-fi receiver. I came across such devices from the manufacturer Arylic. I don’t know which one to buy, which one works best with Music Assistant. I would like an open source solution.
