HAC ZWA-2 Not Seen by HAOS

Background info:
I have a Home Assistant Yellow with a RPi CM4 and PoE. I originally set it up using the CM4’s internal 16 GB NVMe.

Recently I purchased a Nabu Casa Home Assistant Connect ZWA-2 device. It took a few gyrations to get ZWave JS and the integration all running happily, but eventually it all worked. I was able to add a First Alert Z-Wave-enabled smoke detector and see its properties in my Home Assistant dashboards.

Yesterday I installed an Aiibe 128-GB NVMe drive in the box. “Move data disk” successfully transferred everything to the new drive. At that time, I updated to HAOS 18.1 and Core 2026.7.1. The system boots up fine and all of my devices are working…except the ZWA-2.

At first, plugging in its USB cable didn’t even power up the device (no lights). I thought maybe it was a power issue, so I opened the Yellow back up and switched its PoE class from 3 to 4. After that, the ZWA-2 did power up and displays its slowly-pulsating blue light.

However, I can find no indication that HAOS is aware of the device.

  • lsusb does not list it
  • dmesg shows no USB connect/disconnect messages when I plug/unplug it
  • hassio hardware info doesn’t list it

At this stage, my attempts to set up Z-Wave JS are stalled because I can’t identify the device, so I can’t tell Z-Wave JS what device to use.

Nabu Casa’s documentation pages are just about useless.

What might I be missing? Are my “linuxy” expectations for lsusb and dmesg incorrect for the HAOS environment?

Mea culpa. I’d swapped out the USB cable for a shorter one that turned out to be a power-only cable. Switched back to the one that came in the box and it’s working again.
