HASS bridge cannot be added to HomeKit - Host mode or port opening required?

I am still new to all this, please forgive me if I am asking things in a very novice way.

Running HA in Docker on my Synology NAS together with Zigbee2MQTT.

Either scanning the QR code or entering the code, I cannot add HASS bridge or my Android TV to Homekit.

  1. Read (googled for days) that the port 21064 for HASS bridge had to be ‘opened up’ and that solved it for someone. What do we mean by opening up a port? It’s not port forwarding via the router as that’d be for external usage. Is this something to be configured in Docker?

  2. Also read that it would only work in Network mode: Host. Is this true? If yes, how do I start with this? I read that it is not an easy switch and can cause issues with already working networks.

Thank you very much for any help on this!

UPDATE: I uninstalled Home Assistant and installed Home Assistant Supervised and adding HASS bridge to Homekit worked fine.
