HEIC/HEIF support for Area Photo Upload in mobile app

I’m using the mobile (Android) app often. My phone (Galaxy S24) saves images as HEIC/HEIF and I cannot upload them as Media to assign it as an area picture.

My workaround is, make a screenshot and use that. But it would be nice if I can select HEIC/HEIF images directly for uploading to HA.

Why not simply edit the file name from .heic to .jpg, or set your smasung to save them as jpg by default?

  • Because HEIC is not JPEG.
  • I use HEIC/HEIF because it saves me a lot of storage and I have and make a lot of photos.
