Heiman HS1SA-E Smoke alarm

Hey everyone, just wanted to share my quick thoughts on the Heiman smoke sensor I just set up.

The good stuff: Integration with Zigbee2MQTT was dead simple. It paired instantly and exposes a ton of useful data right out of the box (smoke level in dB/m, chamber contamination, temperature, and even a “Siren for automation” switch which is a nice touch).

The magnetic base is actually great. It’s super easy to pop it on and off the ceiling for maintenance without messing with screws. Also, it’s pretty tiny compared to older models.

The “meh” stuff: To be honest, I prefer the look of my Aqara sensors. The Heiman has this grayish tone that makes it stand out a bit too much against a white ceiling, especially if yours are low. It doesn’t feel quite as “integrated” or sleek as the Aqara stuff.

The big miss: I’m a bit disappointed that there’s no native way to interconnect them so they all sound at once if one goes off. You have to handle that via automations in HA, which works, but I’d feel safer with a hardware-level bridge.

Overall, a solid device for the price, but keep the color in mind if you’re picky about aesthetics
