that seems reasonable, but we have to limit it to a maximum value, like 20 minutes, otherwise, it's too risky if someone accidently triggers it.
and as Steven mentioned, it should be installed in an optimal location, it should avoid such case as many as possible.
Repeated exposure to cooking vapors, grease, and smoke particles can contaminate the sensing chamber over time, potentially reducing sensitivity, increasing false alarms, and shortening the operational lifespan of the device. In such cases, relocating the detector in accordance with the manufacturer's installation guidelines is recommended.
How do you tell the difference between a HS1SA-E vs HS1SA-E Plus?
Hi. I am setting up a home security system based on ZHA. Can I use the HS1SA-E Plus as a Zigbee alarm/siren? ie can I use a motion or door sensor as a trigger (instead of smoke) and then use HS1SA-E Plus as the alarm/siren in the automation action? If so, is this a simple automation to set up or would it require writing YAML script?
The reason I ask is that there are no decent Zigbee alarms available in the UK. Heiman siren HS2WD is not available with UK plug. (it would be good if it was!)

The HS1SA-E provides the essential smoke alarm functions.
The HS1SA-E Plus is designed specifically for Home Assistant enthusiasts and power users, adding features such as heartbeat LED control, siren control, temperature reporting, remote self-test, diagnostic information, and OTA-upgradable community-driven features.

Yes, that's supported and should be easy to automate in Home Assistant just like any other entity.
At the moment, the siren only provides the built-in Smoke Alarm and CO Alarm sound profiles.
We're also bringing the same siren functionality to the HS1CA-E Plus, which will be available on Amazon soon. As always, we're happy to hear feature requests from the community and will continue improving the integration through future updates.

The box seems to only have HS1SA-E as well so there’s some confusion about what version it actually is?
Hi Leo could you also send me the firmware update file for the HS1SA-E and the procedure to apply it? Bought it yesterday, read about the plus later on. Would love to be able to mute the alarm remotely as we have pets in the house.

The Zigbee version of the HS1SA must use the blue-and-white packaging. All other packaging versions are older versions.
So I’ve tried using the HS1SA-E Plus as a Zigbee siren for home security. There does not appear to be a way to do this cleanly using an automation in ZHA as the only options to turn the siren on via a trigger appear to be via remote test button or warn, both of which give just 3 or 4 siren bleeps. I’ve done a bit of a workaround to achieve multiple siren bleeps but its messy. It would be nice to be able to simply switch the siren on (and off) via a trigger in ZHA.
Volume control on the HS1SA-E Plus, via ZHA, would also be useful. If its already there, apologies, but I can’t see it.

Due to the limited resources of the chipset, we are unable to add volume control to the HS1SA-E Plus. However, that is a great suggestion—thank you! We will consider adding this feature to our future models.

Couldn’t get duration to work, but I’ve achieved similar effect by having an Action repeat Press Alarm multiple time.
if you would like to solve this issue, you can replace my quirks file, and it will exposes two types of sound in HA.
In order to be consistent with HA, so the merged quirk was using standard zigbee siren operation.

I still think there there may be demand for a battery powered alarm in the same style as HS1SA-E but without the smoke / CO2 detector elements, just a simple siren but super configerable (eg volume, tone type etc). I can see several uses for this besides a security alarm. eg fridge open alarm, power off alarm (eg for freezer), child alerts etc Obviously in these cases you don’t want to be blasted with 85 decibels! and the different tones would allow immediate identification of the trigger. But how Heiman judges whether there is enough demand for such a product I have no idea.
