Heiman smoke alarm HS1SA-EF-2nd new features in ZHA and Z2M

Dear All,
Hope everyone had a brilliant Christmas! :christmas_tree:, wish you all had a wonderful and relaxing holiday break with your loved ones.

I previously shared a proposal for adding new features to our smoke alarms on the Heiman zigbee and matter smoke alarm proposal - Hardware - Home Assistant Community and Heiman zigbee and matter smoke alarm proposal : r/smarthome, I want to thank all of you who showed interest and shared such great ideas—we truly appreciate the input!

As we move into the new year, I want to share some exciting progress. Recently, I’ve been working hard on integrating the HS1SA-EF into both Zigbee2MQTT (Z2M) and ZHA.

We are making great progress, and I would love to share the latest developments with you here. Your thoughts and feedback mean a lot to us as we move forward.

What’s new?

  • Dual Siren Support: We have integrated both Smoke and CO siren types, it can be interconnected with CO alarms.
  • Alarm Identification: You can now identify exactly which type of alarm triggered the siren initially.
  • Platform Compatibility: We have successfully tested these features using Home Assistant Automations and Node-RED, if you need anything else, please let us know.
  • remote test: Trigger a device self-check and test the interconnection without needing to reach for the ceiling.
  • remote mute: Manually hush the alarm from your dashboard if you have confirmed it is a false alarm.
  • NTC Temperature: it can shows the ambient temperature near smoke alarm.
  • Heartbeat light switch: If installed in a bedroom, you can now disable the heartbeat LED to prevent it from being annoying at night.
  • Smoke level: Real-time smoke levels are now exposed to your dashboard, allowing you to create custom “pre-alarm” notifications.

Since there are many open-source components involved, I would love to invite anyone willing to help test these new features. Your feedback is invaluable in making this integration stable for everyone.

Please feel free to join the discussion below!

May you please clarify whether these are mains powered, replaceable battery powered, sealed battery powered, or some combination?

Also, may you please clarify whether the interconnection supports zwave/Zigbee/matter bindings which continue to work without a server and/or without a router? I suppose if these are battery powered, then they couldn’t talk directly without a router anyway so bindings wouldn’t add as much value.

The rest of it looks amazing! So many details and controls are exposed, it’s wonderful and provides a lot of flexibility! Really excited to see this!

Thank you very much for the suggestion. The HS1SA is powered by replaceable batteries only, but please stay tuned! We will be rolling out various new smoke alarm series.

Yeah, as you mentioned, Zigbee and Matter bindings don’t work if there’s no router, but we will have solution for that.

We will clarify those various separately.

This is only the beginning. We plan to continue improving our solutions step by step.

Hi LeoXie

I have an HS1SA-M smoke detector. Home Assistant shows that a new 1.5 update is available. I updated, but the update failed when the progress bar reached 100%. What could be causing the update to fail? The SmartThings platform doesn’t report any updates for this detector.

Is this on the market yet? I’m finding the product code without “EF” on the end, so I am presuming it is different? I am interested in testing if I can get hold of one.

Hi @michal40 , please email me [email protected], I will guide you though.

Hello

In Home Assistant, we can set up direct binding from device to device and it should work even if the server is down, so battery device should continue to work in this use case.

No ?

yeah, at least one router as its parent, the battery powered devices can talk to each other with binds
