I love the Hue wall switches–the ones that have the remote that magnetically attaches to the base that attaches to the wall with adhesive. They’re the perfect way to get my family to use the right switches, instead of flipping all my lights off at the bulb level, and make it easier to use them.
What I don’t love is the price. Is there some other version of those that are available–basically, a vanilla (Z-wave/zigbee/wifi) switch that I can attach to the wall and have it trigger some automation or scene in HA?
I feel like this exists and I just don’t know the right terms to search for, so if someone can point me in the right direction, I’d appreciate it. Thanks much!
I have used WallMote 7 – Aeotec for a stairway that wasn’t wired for 3 way switches. I don’t think there is a standardized name for such things across manufacturers.
You might want to let us know, in which market you are. I could recommend the Lidl buttons, but idk if they are available where you live.
EDIT: Forgot, Shelly has three different buttons as well, I own one model of them, works great as well and has a hell of a battery life => one (1!) year without charging is no problem
Then the Shelly devices would fit, they are sold in th US. Let’s hope, Lidl comes around with their smart home devices in the US soon, they are really nice and give a good value for the money. Anyway, until then, I could recommend these two Shelly buttons.
That’s the one I was meaning above. It’s nice, and it has some really good sleep mode. It is only logged into Wifi, for two or three minutes (configurable) after you use it. Then it goes into a deep sleep, where you can awake it by the button push. It takes some seconds and it is back up. I used that button for a long time in my garage, needed to be charged after one and a half year for the first time.
And for the more “mobile” touch, there is this bluetooth based button:
EDIT: FYI this would be the Lidl button (german description only):
If it would make sense for you, I could mail them to you. But DHL is not cheap, you’d need to order a few, so the $60 shipping would not weight that heavy on the total price…
