Help getting Arlo running in HA (video stream and activation)

Hello,

already searched but not found what solved my problem.
Sure someone can point me into the right direction or already has solved this.

I own two arlo cameras, running fine.
Also, integration of the components as described on the components Websites are fine.

But i am still struggling on the following items:

  1. Activate the ARLOs when no one is at home.
Of course i can activate using the Arlo owned features, but this means to constantly have the app on all my families smartphones running.
My wish would be to use already set-up home detection methods within HA by HA automation methods.

  2. Video stream integration:
I read the notes all about ffmpeg but struggling around with this. Arlo camera components webpage tells me to install backports ffmpeg version?
As i am running the HA Hassbian image (and HA in the latest version) i could install a current version of ffmpeg.
Do i really need the older versions to get this running? How to integrate it into my HA?

Thanks for your help in advance,
Regards, Ralf

Hi Ralf,

I saw your post a while ago and was waiting for my order to arrive to pop in the discussion.
Im using Hassbian myself and now Arlo, too.
I cant get this working though. The component seems to be completely broken. So many errors…
At first it looked quite okay but after a while the entitys couldnt be updated and the log was flooded with errors. Now I removed it completely and probably only arm/disarm through ifttt.
If it actually works for you, you should have a look at this component for your first problem:

I made two custom modes in the arlo app and just added them in my alarm automation. Using the Manual Alarm Control Panel state changes to also change the Arlo Mode. It worked until HA lost its connection to Arlo.

For your second problem I saw the picture in HA´s frontend but could not start the vid due to missing ffmpeg. I did not bother to continue, though.

Hagd!

I couldn’t get this working either. Got tired of screwing around with it, so when I want to Arm or Disarm the Arlo cameras, I just fire an event to IFTTT. Haven’t had any issues since I set it up.

Hey Jason,

How did you set up the IFTTT part?
