Hi everyone,
I’m looking for suggestions on where to look for errors in my configuration. I’m having remote access issues (via app and web) on an instance that works perfectly in local mode.
I’m a big fan of Home Assistant, I think I’ve been using it since before the team became a foundation, and my setup has grown with me to cover my entire house.
Currently, I’m running HassOS on a Raspberry Pi 4, and it works great. Recently, however, I’ve been having random problems connecting when I’m away from home, and I can’t figure out why.
Here is my deployment:
- Public IP with 2.5Gbps bandwidth.
- Valid DNS name with SSL from Let’s Encrypt.
- Port forwarding (80 and 443) from the modem to a reverse proxy.
- An Nginx reverse proxy with two virtual hosts (one for Home Assistant and one for Nextcloud).
- A single switch where Nextcloud, Home Assistant, and Nginx are connected (all on the same VLAN).
- Home Assistant is on the RPi4 with an external SSD.
- 4 mobile app
When I’m at home, everything works perfectly. But if I’m away for more than 4 hours, I lose access to Home Assistant, even though Nextcloud continues to work. This has happened three times in less than a month.
To fix it, I have to go back home, connect to the local network, and restart Home Assistant, even though it was still working fine locally with no notice.
It’s very strange. Where should I look to see what’s happening? Any suggestions?
Thanks
Ps: I was not in ip_ban.
