Help needed with using Hue smart button with Home Assistant

Hello everyone,

I’ve been using Home Assistant with Hue motion sensors and Hue lights, and everything has been working great so far. However, I’m having some trouble getting the Hue smart button to work properly.

I’ve read that I should use hue_event to control the lights with the smart button, but when I went to the developer tools - events - listen to events and tried listening to hue_event, nothing came through when I pushed the button. I even tried subscribing to * and pushing the button, but still no luck.

It’s strange because all other events seem to be coming through without any issues. I’ve tried looking for solutions online, but I haven’t found anything that has worked so far.

If anyone has any suggestions on how I can get the Hue smart button to work with Home Assistant, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance for your help!

How is the connection between your Hue devices and Home Assistant? Are you using a Hue hub or some zigbee usb dongle (and in this case are you in ZHA, Z2M or deconz)?

I’m using the hue hub

I would suggest to try to paring the smart with hue hub,
(try a simple task) and later IF you HA setup works you will be able to discover any event (of your lights, and switch and I think so also for your smart button).
Usually (at example with Hue dimmer, HA could be even to smart : you will add another task to a short press and another task to long one (even not associated to the same scenario or light)).

In the end I replaced the hub with the sonoff zigbee, installed Z2M and all is working now/
