Hi all,
I’m struggling wiring a Sonoff Mini L2 to a light switch.
I’m located in Europe.
I have some very basic eletrical knowedge but very confused on how to set this up properly
Current Setup on the switch : (see attach)
It’s a single light switch (on/off)
I may be wrong but I believe this is a 2 phases switch.
2 Brown wires connected together into L1
2 Bleu wires connected together intro L2
2 White cables connected independently to 2 other inputs on the switch
The reason I’m struggling is because there are 4 wires and no idea how to connect them all since there are more wires in total than the total Sonoff Input and Output.
Or perhpas this SonOff Mini is not compatible with this wiring setup.
Can you, electrical experts, help me out !
Thanks in advance for your help.
you have a 2 phase switch, the sonoff is a 1 phase switch.
technically you can use the switch but not in a 2 phase configuration.
also not advised for your own safety, you must always cut both phases in a bathroom using a double pole switch.
if you really want to use the sonoff, you can disconnect one white wire (the white wires are going to the light) and connect it to the blue wires, but you can’t put 3 wires together in the switch, you’ll need a wago connector for that.
the brown wires must be connected (both) to the sonoff L IN, the other white wire you need to connect to the sonoff L OUT.
now your switch should be completely free of wires and you need to run two new wires between the switch and the sonoff.
one wire between L1 and S1, the other between 1 and S2. (you can also use L2 and 2 instead of L1 and 1).
Thank you so much for your reply.
Very clear.
That said, this is a light switch outside the bathroom that only activates the ceiling light, so I assume not to risky.
That said, would this version work better…
Or is there any sonoff available to could ensure a safe setup ?
Thx
the R4 is also a 1 phase switch, I don’t think sonoff has a 2 phase switch.
anyway, even if the switch is outside the bathroom, it needs to be a 2 phase switch, the risk is at the light, when changing the light bulb in a damp room, the risk being electrocuted is higher. same for lights and plugs outdoors.
if you’re using home assistant, you can integrate sonoff with eWeLink, Philips Hue also can be integrated with HA.
or you can reflash the sonoff with esphome firmware like I did, but you’ll need some soldering skills and adapter to flash the device.
