I am still tweaking my occupancy detection, been having some good results with zones, ip-tracker and a little door-logic.
I wanted to get the best notification response but thats where I am failing - I now have Nabu-Casa running which is great, I have read that a two-zone set up can be good so I now have my home zone and around that i have a higher accuracy zone to push my phone into higher accuracy mode.
But, it seems to still be pretty poor and the higher accuracy bit seems to make no difference as it still takes a good while to show i am home.
Can anyone explain exactly how to set up for the best location tracking using an Android phone, the companion app and so-on please? I have read so much on this but it still seems vague and very much random. Surely there must be a fixed setting for a various options in the companion app to give the very best it can?
The idea of multi-zone for higher accuracy mode to save battery is a sound one i think so would certainly want to maximise battery life.
It seems like the high-accuracy zone is backwards?
On the map shown, the right-hand route trace is where I went out yesterday - the outer orange ring is my higher accuracy zone, none.home is the blue middle ring. The increase in data logs seems to to show the accuracy increasing after leaving the zone??
The left-hand trace is my return home and shows no accuracy at all, not even near the road i was on as data points were so far apart.
Zones inside zones may not act like you think.
I don't recommend it. That will probably flipping between inner home and outer home and making all kinds of unwanted behavior.
Ok, thanks, I've removed that extra zone now but turned on the extended zone range; reads like it should help but will have to test it when i next go out. The zone thing did read ok but as you said, i guess it might not do what i expected
Still no idea why it was working backwards though.
This looks better, I went for a stroll yesterday - i live next to a supermarket. It looks like the extended zone for accuracy mode works well as I can see my phone was pinging location all the time I was out. Not the best for battery but I guess I can't have everything and as the store is well within the extension it is doing it's job hopefully.
