Recently I had to replace a failed HDMI cable between my LG OLED TV and my Denon receiver. Prior to the failure CEC was working so that when I turned the TV on, the receiver would come on. When I turned the TV off, the receiver would go off.
I replaced the failed HDMI with a full fiber HDMI, and it is powered full time. For some reason, the TV will no longer turn on the receiver, but it will turn it off. I haven’t been able to remedy that.
I came up with the idea to use a simple automation in HA to help. It worked for several weeks, but all of a sudden it quit working. I haven’t changed anything wrt the receiver or TV. Here is what I have:
alias: Theater Test
description: ""
triggers:
- trigger: state
entity_id:
- media_player.lg_webos_tv_oled83c2pua
to: "on"
conditions: []
actions:
- action: media_player.turn_on
metadata: {}
data: {}
target:
entity_id: media_player.home_theater_2
mode: single
Any help appreciated. Bonus points for figuring out why the CEC command through the HDMI won’t turn on the receiver in the first place.
I don’t think I created any new entities. I know when I turn on media_player.home_theater_2 from HA, it turns on the receiver.
The TV turns the receiver off when the TV is turned off through HDMI eARC, but for some reason, after replacing the HDMI cable, the TV no longer turns the receiver on when the TV is turned on. Since that’s not working, I am just trying to get HA to turn the receiver on once the TV is turned on.
It sounds like the ARC/eARC connection needs reset with the new cable or your receiver is not compatible with the fiber HDMI. I 'd start there before focusing on HA.
