If you are noticing a problem with high CPU usage, this information may help. I am a new user to Home Assistant. I have a Home Assistant Green and I have been slowly adding devices and automations. My CPU usage was typically averaging 2%. All of a sudden, I noticed the CPU usage go up to 26%.
After some debugging and googling the issue, I realized that it was an HA OS upgrade issue. I was always updating to the latest version. I was using the latest OS version (I think 15.2x?). I downgraded to the HA OS 14.2 and my CPU usage went back down to 2%. Problem solved
From the terminal, I used the following command and it fixed the problem:
ha os update –version “14.2”
(first I’ll begin with I’m an ex-server performance engineer)
Let’s start with… Up to 26% by is not an issue by itself.
Up to x percent and NOT running, throwing errors IS an issue. In fact I love to see all my gear running at 80% all the time (I’m getting my $ worth)
But just running at a higher percentage should not be itself a reason for rollback. Sometimes there may be a legit reason. (dB maintenance running for a few hours or days in some rare cases after installation) you should let it settle for a fews days if the machine is not erroring.
If it continues the use the information in the cookbook (search here for HA cookbook it will be one of the first 5 hits) to investigate the
So. Hi Cpu for unknown reason is only a workaround for an issue that may not exist. We’re you able to get any logs indicating what was burning Cpu? Any other data?
Reason I say. Is basically now you’re sitting waiting for a time bomb because you rolled back… If you don’t know why the Cpu ‘spiked’ when 15.x.x releases, will you just stay?
I get that you did some research and decided rollback was best for you. But with no indication of why it’s just a random report that nobody can investigate to make better. So any additional info as to what it was or?
