Download apk file to your phone.
Rename file to .png extension. So app.apk.png
Open album on you fridge.
Send your apk.png as an image to your fridge.
Go to settings. storage. files. Then it will open an file manager.
Search for the apk.png. long click. And rename file back to original name. So app.apk
Start installing you apk.
I’ve tried it with an Android phone (Samsung S25) and I was not able to see the renamed files in the ConnectLife App. I have started with the Homeassistant apk which is quite large. Maybee this is the issue? Maybee you can describe it a little more in detail.
If you have an apk you want to install.
Rename this apk on your phone to appname.png
Size was no issue for me. Ive installed minimal release of companion app Succesfully. It was aeound 60megs.
Just rename the apk you want to lets say appname.apk. png
When recieved on fridge rename it back to appname.apk
renaming on the fridge is only possible when you go to settings, then storage. Then files. It should open a filebrowser. There you go to a map bluetooth i think. There should be the file. Rename it. And then ooen the file. It should prompt you with the normal way of installation.
I did install a smaller version of homeassistant.
I think its better to install chrome. And open it thrue the webbrowser.
Edit:
Maybe put it inside your picture folder.
Did you have a problem renaming it on your phone. Or to rename the apk on the fridge?
The method described above worked for me. (To enter Android Settings, just go to the provided Settings app, System, Product info, then tap multiple times on Software Version.)
The APK file I sent was F-Droid. From there I was able to install Home Assistant (minimal).
However, it’s a disappointment because the rendering of Home Assistant dashboards is completely buggy for some reason. Not sure if it’s an old version of WebView, the resolution…
Another difficulty: after you’ve installed an app and you go back to the fridge’s home screen, there’s no easy way to launch the app again. As long as HA or F-Droid are in recent apps, you can find it back, but it will be harder after the fridge reboots or those apps are killed for some reason.
Thanks for the feedback! Is there a way to use a browser and still get the original apps? Cooking suggestions, notes, timer, etc. My spouse and kids do use those.
I am about to install Firefox via ConnectLife, but to transfer the apk, I renamed ist to .png, but in the ConnectLife app the „picture“ don’t show.
Oh, ich must try the lightweight launcher, because it failed to transfer the file.
Although I renamed it to .png, it don’t appear in the ConnectLife App for transfer.
I tried everything. Mov/mp3/jpg/png and every folder in the „storage“ of the fridge, nothing worked. I saw in the Bluetooth folder (refridgeraror) the „installation picture“ appears, but it stopped loading to the fridge. I can rename it to apk, but it shows 0MB
