After some searching here and on the web I can’t find a basic intro to history logging configuration on HA.
One thing that attracted me to HA from HE was the built in graphing of device history. So amazing to help track down issues and even learn more about how your home is operating.
But I have just noticed that my 2 installs of HA (one at home on a nuc and the 2nd on our boat on a pi) aren’t tracking the expected 30 days of history. Exact history seems to vary, but some entities are as lit as a few days.
From some reading I have learned history is managed in the ‘recorder’ but I can’t find anything about that in the UI. Also it seems to be recommended to install a 3rd party database - but there are several and it’s not clear which one is best.
Both of my setups will have under 50 devices and I would ideally like 6 months of history on everything and some select devices years of history.
How do I get from here - not knowing much about history settings or how to change them, to a healthy HA history setup that I can rely on for the foreseeable future.
That said I have spent way more time getting HA up and running that I orignally allocated (mostly because I have found it very interesting), so would prefer and abridged guide rather than having to get my PHD in HA history config.
Thanks for any assistance.
